Preservatives help the product live longer. They destroy bacteria and thus don’t let the product lose its effectiveness. Any mixture of ingredients, especially the natural ones, is a great place for bacterial growth. If there are no preservatives, your cream will become impossible to use or even harmful within days.
Some of the preservatives can be irritators, but we have to deal with it because right now there is no other way of protecting the product from bacterial growth.
