Biotin is also known as Vitamin H or Vitamin B7. It is an amazing chemical, but only if you take it inside as a supplement. Will it work if you apply it to the skin? There is not enough scientific data that can prove its efficiency as a cosmetic component. But manufacturers say it can smooth the skin and improve the look of your hair.

On the basis of the animal and clinical data included in the report, the Cosmetic Ingredient Review Expert Panel concludes that Biotin is safe as used in cosmetic formulations. Currently, the maximum concentration in leave-on products is 0.1%. Published data on the carcinogenic potential of Biotin were not found. Intradermal injection of 0.1 cc Biotin into the abdominal skin of guinea pigs did not produce irritation at the site of the injection.
